They left without putting the table together, the other lot put the chair together back to front and God knows where the sofa is!

ANDY'S DAY

Another day in Brazil. Office evacuated with chronic power failure. Going to be a doubly busy day tomorrow! So, home in our flat experiencing Katell's daily routine - waiting for workman and deliveries! Big shame as its a beautiful day outside. Time to practice Portuguese and update the blog. Here's some snippets from a day in Andy's life - not all a holiday!

Pfff, le bureau est ferme aujourd'hui au cause d'un problem de courant. J'ai plein trucs a faire - je vais etre presse demain, comme un citron... Donc, je suis chez nous. Je experimente la journee normale de Katell - plein soleil, mais on est a'interieur, attend les mecs qui viennent faire les trucs dans l'appart et les livraisons. On peut profiter du temps pour practiquer notre Portugueshhhh. Et met des choses sur le blog...

Voici ma journee!

6am start

Commute. Nice to see the sun, beach looks tempting. Big shame, as it rained all weekend...

Je conduit a cote de la plage. C'est dommage d'aller au boulot - il a plu tout le weekend!

Light traffic at this time. Coming home is heavier.

SALVADOR DE BAHIA BIRTHDAY WEEKEND

Salvador de Bahia est située au nord-est du Bresil. C'etait la premiere capitale du Bresil, pendant plus de deux siecles.

On y a passe le weekend de Paques pour l'anniversaire de Katell. Voila nos photos...

We spent Easter and Katell's birthday in Salvador, the old colonial capital of Brazil. Here are some of our photos!

Nous restons a Santo Antonio, dans le quartier historique. Bien calme en ce week-end de Paques !

Dans le prolongement de Santo Antonio, se trouve le quartier de Pelourinho. Un peu plus de vie par la avec boutiques, musees, restaus.


Igreja Sao Francisco. A baroque/rococco church, the inside of which is covered with 900 kg of gold (no photos allowed). During the 18th century, while the economy was prospering from the land (and the slaves), the rich families wanted to show off a little.

LACERDA ELEVATOR. It is a century old elevator that connect the lower city (business district and docks) with the historic center.

La ville est divisée entre sa partie haute (Pelourinho) et la partie basse (cidade baixa) où se trouvent la cathédrale (la première au Brésil) et les immeubles administratifs. L'elevateur existe depuis plus d'un siecle. Plus pratique que de marcher !

Not much to see but better than walking up hill!
The yellow building is the MERCADO MODELO. An old slave trading market that became a flea market after slavery was abolished. Now it hosts various stands selling all kinds of hand-made souvenirs. Capoeira dancers regularly perform behind the market. Unfortunately, the market was closed for Easter. Reopened on Monday but we did not have the chance to see Caipoera ! Shame...

LE FORT SAO ANGELO. Il fut construit au 17eme siecle pour proteger la ville contre les francais. Trop tard ! :)

C'est mon anniversaire !!!! ;-) Apres une bonne averse la veille, le soleil repointe son nez, nous voila sur l'ile Itaparica, situee juste en face de Salvador. A perfect spot to celebrate its birthday!

Largo de Pelhourinho

Pelourinho and the historic center were the residential district to the upper class of Salvador up until 1855 when a cholera epidemic forced everyone to other neighbourhoods. Only tourists, artists and beggars returned... "don't play with your food..."







Zzzzzzz, c'est fatiguant de jouer les touristes !
